Integrity In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight

In the story Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, Sir Gawain shows a lot of outstanding characteristics. Gawain has the reputation of being a great knight and an elegant lover. He takes pride in himself and his viewpoint of the five points of chivalry in every aspect of his life. Gawain is a capstone of humility, devotion, integrity, loyalty, and honesty. Although he is a man of many characteristics, his main characteristic is integrity. Sir Gawain shows integrity through being selfless, reliable, and trustworthy. To begin with, Sir Gawain is very selfless. He steps up and accepts the challenge from King Arthur because none of the other knights will. He swiftly beheads the green knight. The Lord of the castle welcomes Gawain and offers him a place to stay. Lord Bertilak makes a deal with Sir Gawain that he will go hunting with his men every day and he will bring back his findings in exchange for anything that Sir Gawain finds in the castle. Sir Gawain agrees. The following morning Lady Bertilak tries to seduce Sir Gawain but he refuses her. Before she leaves his room she steals a kiss. She does this every day for the next two days; increasing her kisses each day. On the third day she asks Gawain for a love token. He refuses to give her a token or receive one from her. She tells him about her green silk girdle that protects anyone that is wearing it from death. Gawain only accepts the girdle. Gawain shows his integrity because he shows respect for Lord Bertilak and refuses Lady Bertilak every time she attempts to seduce him.
