A leader “takes the lead”. They bring other people together and guide them by setting a direction and inspiring a vision towards a common goal. Leaders have an array of qualities but there are several important ones that genuinely make them good leaders. A person in today's society that aspires to be a good leader must posses the qualities of integrity and be an excellent communicator, which are both important and essential qualities for effective leadership. One of the most important qualities of a good leader is integrity, in which a person is honest and fair with a consistently high standard of moral values. However, once the public discovered this, they no longer trusted him. Therefore, he later resigned as President. Integrity in a leader needs to be shown consistently in their behaviour over time. Leaders gain/procure the respect of others when they show consistent integrity because people do not want to follow someone who they can not trust to do the righteous thing. Instead of being hypocritical and just telling people what to do leaders must lead by example. Often leading by example is arduous due to outside pressures and circumstances that can cause a person to stray/digress from their moral beliefs because it is easier to do during times where it is difficult to make a decision. “leading by example” is an article published by Mindtools.com announces “Consider what Mahatma Gandhi accomplished through his actions: He spent most of his adult life living what he preached to others. He was committed to nonviolent resistance to protest injustice, and people followed in his footsteps. As a leader you have to be able to convey your feelings and decisions especially when they are difficult ones. “Communication is critical for building alignment and executing strategy” said in the article from theglobeandmail.com by Gary Burnison. This means that a leader that has excellent communication makes it exceedingly easy to a make a compromise and construct an alliance with other people. Similarly, Winston Churchill a former British Prime Minister, was a master communicator, showed throughout his outstanding strategies. Winston Churchill was such a great communicator because he used simple, but precise language which enabled him to deliver effective speeches to Britain, which all could understand. Therefore, Britain's people could classify him with trust and understand his vision. Leaders who are excellent communicators also need to be capable of inspiring others. It sounds simple, but leaders today are operating in an incredibly demanding environment.
