Applying some of Hawkins and Clinton principles in counseling can be beneficial. Not only do they use biblical terminology, but they are also advanced in psychological and medical research. Counseling/ Therapy is a taboo subject in the South Asian Muslim world, especially for immigrant parents who hold on to cultural and religious beliefs during times of stress. No doubt is that admirable however, it is also important that when concerns become problematic, professional help can be of great assistance. Therefore, it is important that when a client such as Aisha walks into a therapist 's office, the counselor must be prepared for the world that they may not be familiar with. They must take on the role of a humanistic counselor who is understanding, unconditional, and accepting of her world and the factors that are impacting her such as family, peer pressure, culture, and religion. Considering that, I would recommend Aisha, to meet…

Collaboration has been a huge factor in my school counseling development. The ASCA mentions that school counselors must work together with stakeholders both inside and outside the school (ASCA National Model, 2012, p. 6). By having a unified group of people (teachers, students, parents, community, administration, etc.) school counselors can access and support student achievement more effectively. Having this teamwork can really allow all parties to work towards a common goal of equality, which can build academic successes for every student.…
Book Review of the New Christian Counselor Summary In order to introduce a new methodology of the Christian counselor Hawkins and Clinton (2015) presented the reader with a blueprint of what is expected for new Christian counselors. There are very general ideals that can be taken from both the bible and the new testament which can be used in counseling to allude to a persons life , a good example would be some of parables present in the texts. Then there are things such as this the teachings of Jesus and bringing them all into perspective with a persons daily life and questioning how well a person follows these and looking into their lives and why they may not be . The reason to mention this is that people sometimes need perspective on what they do and that they are not perfect no matter what , sometimes people will sin but all they can do is try their best to adhere to a good life. On that note a part of the job of a Christian counselor is to be aware of what the person is doing in their lives but also to remind them that minor errors in their life is a part of life and that God is forgiving for he loves humankind and as such the counselor needs to project this air of forgiveness to the…

without fear of judgement or reaction of the therapist. An environment of safety will allow individuals to express anxieties so that they may be interpreted and analyzed. • Person-Centered theoretical perspective to counseling- Individuals have the ability to understand themselves and are able to solve their own problems without direct intervention from the therapist. If individuals are in a therapeutic relationship, in which the therapist is genuine and real, accurately empathetic and provides unconditional positive regard individuals will be able to self-direct. • Cognitive Behavioral theoretical perspective to counseling – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is problem focused and action oriented meaning that specific problems are addressed and assistance is given in selecting…
