The purpose of this discussion board is to describe the Electronic Health Record (EHR), the six steps of EHR and how my facility implements them, to describe “meaningful use” and how my facilities status is obtaining it, and to further discuss the EHR’s and patient confidentiality.

There are two goals of the mandate, Patient-Focused Health and Population Health. Four methods working in conjunction to attain these two goals are as follows, Privacy and Security; which is applied by orchestrating the electronic exchange while protecting patient personal information. Collaborative Governance; establishes a collaborative effort between federal agencies and stakeholders to accomplish more than an individual sector would accomplish. Adoption; promotes implementation of EHR tools and adoption of technologies in order to receive personalized health care. Furthermore, there are regular system audits; every system is auditable so a supervisor can look into any system at anytime. Security audits are run on the EHR system on a regular basis to identify a breach of HIPAA. And there is a compliance office to handle any complaints, issues, and breaches. The hospital also has eight policies that manage the employee’s behavior of the electronic protected health information.
Iv learned from written this paper how health information technology is transforming the patient health care system. That great strides were taken by our government to adapt in order to meet the complex health care demands. I had no idea how involved the EHR system is nor did I consider the billions and billions of dollars that has been spent in launching the system.
