This documentary detailed the events surrounding the first integrated prom in a school’s history. This high school is in Mississippi, and this prom took place in 2008. This is shocking to me. I cannot imagine how segregated proms were allowed to go on for so long in this area. There are several instances of segregated proms taking place even more recently, and it seems that they may still exist in some places in Georgia. These proms typically take place as “invitation-only” events where one race is invited to one prom and another race is invited to a different prom.
