Intasc 3: Observation In The Classroom

Decent Essays
During this phase in my PLE I really thought the teacher focused on the InTASC #3 which is learner environment. I say this because the first thing she did was put the students into a group and then gave them a story to read, and after they read the story they had to collaborate with each of their group members to come up with a question. Then they have to share this with the class so everyone can learn from the question they asked. Once they are done with the questions they are supposed to come up with their own story, this ties in the critical thinking aspect of learning along with more collaboration with the group. After all the groups have worked on their books they are going to take turns going around and each group will read their …show more content…
I say this because on page 615 it talks about monitoring comprehension means you as a teacher are actively involved at all times so you can spot it out and correct it. The problem we see in many adolescent readers is that they fail to understand what they read, and why they read. I think Mrs. Berenda does a good job monitoring the class and really catches the students when they are struggling. I specifically remember during the ask question part where she asked a group what their question was. When she noticed them struggling. She turned to the book, and showed the group why their question wasn’t necessarily wrong she explained how she went deeper in the text to get a more specific question, and why this was better than their vague question. After this she went on to explain to the class why reading closely is important because if you ask questions during a book, or text you start to comprehend the material better. As an upcoming teacher, I like to see that teachers still care about their students, and don’t get mad when their students are having trouble, instead she takes the time to explain to the whole class, why something is wrong that way everyone gets the rights answer and there is less confusion in the

Doing clinical observations are very important because it gives a change to see student and teacher interactions first hand and get to see how well a student is responding. During my observations at Biddeford Intermediate School, I got the change to shadow an Ed. Teach in a life skills room. This was a great opportunity for me because it was a chance to see another kind of intervention done in the special education department. I have done many observations with an occupational therapist, and they have always been in lighting and very educational, but to visit a life skills room gave me more perspective on the special education department as a whole.…

On Monday, during the third period, I observed a read-aloud lesson. After the teacher wrote the title of the book, she called the students over to the meeting area. Prior to the read aloud, the teacher set strict expectations for the students. For instance, the teacher advised the students that they had to remain seated “Criss-Crossed Applesauce” and raised their hands if they had a question or a comment about the reading. Otherwise, they had to sit calm and quiet.…

If I were able to pick the line for Spring 2016 I would pick Potential Candidates that would help keep this chapter alive and better the chapter as well. I would chose Courtney Lall because she's very passionate and has made connections with other sister from other chapters. I would then choose Melanie Taveras. She hasn't been and interest long, but she knows a lot about the chapter and comes up with good suggestions when it comes to fundraising. about the.…

Philosophy of Literacy Literacy was once defined as the ability to read and write, however today is in every aspect of education. Without proper literacy instruction a student might be able to read and write, but he might not know how to properly understand new concepts and engage in advanced reading, writing, speaking, debating and listening. Teaching literacy should be included in Math, Science, History and even Art. For a teacher concepts are invaluable. They are what we teach, however literacy is how we teach it.…

That was probably one thing that I found least helpful, and not in a bad way. I’m just not the type of person to get to know their teachers. I like learning from my teachers, but to discuss what they want to do for fun, and chat about the little things. I’m not the type of person that likes small talk. Obviously, I’m just not sure what to think about that part of the reading.…

When reflecting over the activity given to me, I made the realization that I act alone and do the same activity when I read textbooks or even article because I am not a strong independent reader. I struggle to fully comprehend what I am reading sometimes it may come down to simple little key factors such as not being interested in the reading, or I could be distracted at the time, and maybe the reading doesn’t feel entertaining to me. These are all thought and ideas I got from reflecting over this assignment to determine what I feel sometimes as a student myself. So I know similar thought are going through my student’s minds. Though by doing activities like the “Say Something Strategy” when we are giving a reading assignment as educators, we will be able to see some of the difficulties that our students may be facing with reading.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…

Being able to go out and observe in a classroom is something that makes me so excited to be a teacher in the future. I was able to observe a classroom and learn many techniques to encourage learning. On October 11 I went to Discovery Elementary School to observe in Mrs. Hibma’s classroom. This was a 3rd grade classroom, and this interested me because I would love to teach 3rd grade. There were 27 students in the classroom, which I found to be a large classroom.…
