Insurance Premier League: Team Analysis

Insurance Premier League is an event conducted by account executives (Committee) in my organization to collect innovative ideas for the insurance industry. The most innovative idea will be awarded and presented to the leading Insurance companies in the U.S. and Europe.

As a Senior Project Manager, I have successfully led and delivered several insurance projects. Based on my knowledge and experience in the insurance industry, I devised a futuristic idea which could potentially increase the top line of any insurance company. I consulted with experienced industry leaders and refined my idea. I formed a 2-member team to create a storyboard presentation of my vision and presented it to the committee.

During the prototype development, I made substantial mid-course corrections to make much use of everyone’s talent and come up with a best-in-class solution.

Our prototype was a great success and we moved to the finals. We also earned the “Best Presentation” award. Appreciations started pouring in and all were happy with what we had achieved. This success made the team strongly believe in my ideas and leadership skills. It was a priceless moment for me, but at the same time, I knew I must build on this success and make it even bigger.

I continued to make more corrections to the solution based on the committee’s review comments. I laid down a new approach ( test driven development) for creating the model faster and better rather than following the conventional way. The entire team liked my new idea but weren’t sure if it would work. I made a bold decision and requested the team to start the work using the new approach. After one week of development, we saw significant progress which we wouldn’t have achieved through the conventional approach. I was incredibly proud of my decision which in turn inspired the team to learn from my

When asked the question, “what is your biggest accomplishment in the area of leadership,” the same answer comes to mind every time. It is an easy question for me to answer because of the tremendous impact this experience had on my life. In my junior year of high school, the SkillsUSA advisors repeatedly approached me about the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania Western Region Leadership Conference. I didn’t know what it was until they eventually pulled me and a few top students from my school aside and told us about having a “tryout” to see who would best fit to become an officer at the leadership conference. Each of us presented a prepared speech and an extemporaneous speech.…

I appreciate receiving constructive feedback, since this criticism is valuable for me improving from my mistakes. Recently, I had been a leader of a group with whom I had worked on developing a new soda brand, for our entry in the Coca Cola sponsored, World Series of Innovation Competition. Being leader of this team, I encouraged my team to be open and give me their best suggestions. In this process I received positive criticism for my approach in leadership, feedback that I can apply to become a better leader. My group informed me that I took too much initiative to complete the unfinished tasks of some participants, rather than encouraging them to do this work themselves.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…
