Instructional Philosophies Dr. Kowalski played a major role in inspiring me to become a teacher. However, I gained more inspiration in my Introduction to Education class with Dr. Jeremy Brueck. If I do not have fun teaching a lesson then I know my students are not having fun in learning it. I believe that Dr. Brueck sticks true to that too. There have been many different learning tools that he has used throughout his class. A favorite of mine includes an activity called Fishbowl. There is a group of students who are working on a topic and the students who are not in the group are thinking critically about what is being said. Those students respond online where everyone’s statements are seen throughout the whole class. It is a useful tool …show more content…
I am already taking the steps with special education by taking classes and learning more about how to serve children with disabilities. As an intervention specialist my job is to intervene when I see a student struggling in class. I have to keep an eye out for any problems so that child can get the issue found and as early as possible. If a learning disability is found we can get the help that the student needs as soon as possible. I might have to help create an IEP for the student to cater to their needs. A teacher needs to make sure that all of their students are respectful in the classroom no matter what people’s life stories are. If a teacher can display the right types of behaviors in the classroom then the students will …show more content…
I will get to know each student that I have and what makes them unique. Knowing that, I can know what topics that I cover in my class will be sensitive to them. I can keep open discussions so people can ask questions about different cultures as long as the questions stay respectful. I would like to also acknowledge all of the religious holidays in every culture like we do with the main Christian ones. If I work in a special education classroom I will work hard to make sure each student does not feel inferior and to have a sense of a home away from home. I believe schools are to teach children how to be active citizens of society. Our students will be the next lawyers, inventors, doctors, and teachers so we have to make sure we teach them right. If schools are to prepare children for their future then the teachers need to be the best of the best. If a school can trigger inspiration in a student then all they have to do is provide the tools to complete the task. Many people think schools are there so their children can learn and be smart. Others believe that schools are used for political purposes. Those are not wrong, but they are not one of my major purposes. It is great to be smart, but if you have nothing to do with it then what is the point of getting all of that knowledge. Schools should emphasize learning and teach students how to be a part of society.

If some children did not receive a good education they would end up on the streets or maybe even in jail. A good education can save lives, Lynda Barry adds “Without it, I don’t know where I would have gone that morning” (Barry 144). Education gives children a place to get away from their troubled home lives. Some children get to shine through education such as arts, music, sports, and so on. Why should education be taken away from them?…

According to the Lamar County School Student/Parent handbook,There are a number of factors are taken into account when computing a student's grade: homework, daily class work, neatness in preparation of work, promptness in completing work, projects, portfolios, and more. (41) Many classes focus particularly on the skills that require teacher observations (e.g. participation in cooperative group work) rather than grading paperwork. For this reason, attendance is also a factor to take into account when determining grades, because students need to be present in order to receive a grade for activities that require teacher observations such as group projects, whole class discussions, and more types of formative and summative assessments. Lamar County Public Schools have a 10 point grading scale and has four grade reporting periods for each school year. Students who are receiving a regular education, not special education, will have their school work assessed based on their grade level.…

The first step I would take as an educator to help support families of children with special needs in order to maximize their success in my classroom would be to make sure that the child’s disability has been addressed or has been identified. I would make sure that the parents of the child have the necessary information in order to continue forward. I remember in a parent interview I did for Diverse and Exceptional Learner, that the parent got frustrated because the teacher was not direct with them and kept beating around the bush when the teacher was trying to tell the parent that they think their child has Asperger’s. Parents aren’t going to know what to do when their child is identified having special needs. Therefore, the first step a teacher should take when trying to support a parent with a child with special needs is to point them in the…

When observing a special education classroom I am not only observing the class, but I am observing a glimpse into my future as a teacher. I was privileged enough to observe a multi-needs intermediate classroom with students who range from eight to ten year olds at Hope D. Wall School who have moderate to server learning disorders and physical handicaps. The purpose of the multi-need classroom is for the teacher to assess which path the student will take after the year is over. For an example some students might need more intensive guidance during their education, while other students attend life skills classes in order to prepare for life outside of school. While I was observing the class, I was fortunate enough to witness the students participate…

Almost nothing good comes from public schools. I hear that public school is a place where fights, drugs, shootings, and terrible teachers can happen. Only one thing good comes from public schools, all kids can go to get some education and parents can go to work then. I see schools as necessary but need more improvement. Parents have to deal with their kids bad attitudes that they can pick up from school.…

The schools have a purpose to teach the students and prepare them for the upcoming future. The major focus in school is math, science, English, and history. There seems to be a lack on the teaching of values and ethics, the teaching of how life is really like outside of the 4 walled classroom. There is not a class on how to make better life decisions, and how to succeed. Without knowing the difference between right and wrong one is not able to navigate and be successful on the mere education that is provided by the school system.…

While analyzing the required text for this week there were five ethical categories that reoccurred through each document: responsibilities to parents, collaboration, community, personal development, and students. In addition, there are other categories, but these are the most significant to me. Special education teachers have a responsibility to parents: • Use culturally appropriate communication with parents and families that is respectful and accurately understood (CEC, 2010). • Actively seek and use the knowledge of parents and individuals with exceptionalities when planning, conduction, and evaluating special education services and empower them as partners in the education process (CEC, 2010). • Respect the private nature of the special…

Firstly, schools eliminate qualities that makes every student unique by “dulling” their minds and by in some cases putting students under dress codes that are too strict. Schools “dull” students by giving them problems to solve and then telling them that there is only one way to do those problems; by telling students that there is only one way to find the answer then students are taught to not think critically and this results in them being not very smart. The point of creating students who cannot think critically is that they end up being dependent on others and do not gain any leadership skill, this results in a society where most people only know how to follow and not to lead. Schools gives each student a long list of classes that they need in order to graduate from high school, this “dulls” them by not giving them much room to choose their own paths of learning. While you can argue that even though schools give students the opportunity to choose the order in which they take the required classes and the opportunity to choose certain optional classes; the fact is that the classes that are required to take fills up the majority of each students schedule.…

I inquired her background and experiences as well, she worked as a special education teacher for six years and she loved this job. I also asked her how to treat ID students and she replied that special education teachers needed to use repetition, hands-on learning, use multi learning methods (auditing, visual, etc.) to teach students. I also asked what may be the best way to foster the relationship between the special education teacher and the regular education teacher. She suggested that open communication was the best way to do…

Ethical Standards: Being a special education teacher, there are multiple roles to help students succeed in school. In diverse schools, special education teachers need to build a professional platform to help their students succeed. As teachers, it is crucial to understand that at some point throughout a teaching career, there will several times where we will come across students who are identified as exceptional learners. Special education offers knowledge on a wide range of learning disabilities that children struggle with, as well as behavioural issues. Although teachers may not be special education teachers, at some point this role must be taken on to accommodate a child in the classroom. The odds of having a student in your class that has a learning disability or a behaviour problem have been magnified, due to the amount of awareness that been created, and for this reason it is imperative to be informed in this field to ensure that each child is identified and can…

Introduction The curriculum philosophy I plan to present focuses on two of the four philosophies. I want to focus on two philosophies which I think I see most often in our current education systems. The two philosophies that come to the forefront most often in education are: scholar academic and social efficiency. These two philosophies have been around for many years, but in my opinion, they are the easier ones to spot as I think back to my elementary and middle school education, as I walk around my school and other schools I visit, and I can see them throughout the curriculum we are provided with.…

Before taking this course and being out in the field for 20 hours, special education was not my ideal teaching job. Special education was always intimidating to me because there is so much important information that is needed. IEP’s, parents, and goal setting are just a few to name that intimidated me until now. After getting to experience being in a special education room with the students and asking Nicole Degroot questions about these topics, I now I feel that special education may be the positon for me. From the first day of my observation hours, Mrs. Degroot made me feel completely welcome and comfortable, which made the experience that much better.…

Teaching: Making a Difference in Students Lives Education is one of the most demanding jobs in the world. Teachers not only shape the lives of their students, they also shape tomorrow. These children that they are teaching and molding are the very same people who will grow up and hold the weight and decisions of the world one day. There is a type of teacher who, though their students may not be perceived as the future of the world, know that their students can succeed. Special education teachers help not only their students but their parents in an effort to teach basic safety and hygiene, as well as other skills like work ethic and money management.…
