An athletic director acts as an administrator for schools, clubs, and other institutions. Universities and high schools use athletic directors to supervise coaches and staff in athletic programs. This position has changed and morphed into a significant part of a schools program especially at the college level. Although many high school athletic directors are also teachers most hold just the director position. With the many responsibilities that the position entails it is a full time job.…
An athletic director has many duties to perform for school programs. This job is very difficult to maintain because the director has to be ready for any situations that may arise. Directors have to set up meetings for the coaches and staff in the physical education department to establish new rules or past concerns. The meetings gives the coaches or physical education teachers a chance to express any concerns about equipment, expenses, parents, coaches, unfortunate incidents, and schedules. The definition for an athletic director is “to direct athletic activities, supervise the coordination of athletic events and manage athletic department budgets at secondary and post-secondary schools.”…
Day in the life of an Assistant Athletic Director When going into work there are several things an assistant athletic director has to do each and every day. Some things people know about, but there are also some things people don’t know that the assistant athletic director is doing. This job has a very important role to the flow of things when it comes to athletics. Without an assistant director, that would just put too much work on the head director. With this, “The head director can focus more on scheduling games, coaching, developing coaches, as well as many other responsibilities that fall under his leadership.”…
Procedure states that receipts are to be turned in within twenty-four hours of receiving. It has been noted on two separate occasions where receipts have not been submitted in a timely fashion. A Coach or an Inspiration? Even though my track and cross-country coach, Mr. Olson, may not have realized it, he has made me a better person throughout my high school career. As a student athlete who moved multiple times, I built many relationships with my teachers and coaches. I will always remember the teachers and coaches that had a positive impact on my life, whether it was in second grade or my senior year of high school. When I entered college, I contemplated majoring in Education and going straight into teaching because it was of serious interest to me. However, I chose to go another route with my major. After working for a few years in another field, I decided that it was time to strive for a profession that enthused me.…
Coaching is a great way to express a passion for the game and becoming actively involved instead of standing on the sidelines. It is very exciting and self-satisfying to know that as a coach you can positively influence a person’s lifelong involvement with sports. To gain insight into the life of female student athletes I interviewed a female student athlete at Wright State University. Gabrielle is a senior studying Sports Science who runs Track and Field. From my conversation with her I could see how proud she was of discipline, strong work ethic, and positive attitude. It seems that she felt as if academic and psychological resources are ample for student athletes and that the support she has found here at Wright State has made her undergraduate degree more enjoyable. Despite these positive feelings about student athletes, she expressed that she was always busy, is board with team drama, has had injuries, and is constantly exhausted.…

Learning these facts about myself help me cater my style of communicating to different mentees and how to recognize how other people see me in the leadership role of mentor. Learning how to find out about how you communicate and about the leadership model in class gave me tools to work on myself as well as tools for me to pass on to my mentees.…
