Cheating seems like a task that students would be afraid and ashamed of, especially at the college level. Getting caught and punished and being too scared of the consequences along with the fact that it is immoral are all reasons I do not even consider cheating. The fact that all it takes is a few copied sentences in a paper to ruin your gpa and future is insane, but that is how it should be. It is not only the slackers cheating anymore, but rather highly intelligent, yet lowly motivated students. With modern technology along side to help, cheating rates are escalating to an all new high. Cheating comes in all forms, but the most frequently used is plagiarism. All college campuses have conducted academic integrity policies to try to prevent cheating as well as list out what is considered cheating and the consequences. While they all have a common goal of preventing cheating, each campus has their own unique way of establishing the problem and dealing with the aftermath.

There are numerous reasons why students cheat. In the article Instructing Students in Academic Integrity, according to the authors, “ Cheating tends to be justified when students feel that the material that they are learning is not relevant to educational and personal goals”( Craig, Federici, and Buehler 50). When students don’t feel like an assignment is necessary, then they will simply ask to copy another student's work just to get it done and get the assignment points. This is a very popular trend, especially in a course that doesn’t matter or interests the student.
