First and most importantly, studies show that condoms can prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). In a society where STD cases are rising at an alarmingly high rate, it is important that measures be taken to prevent the spread of these deadly diseases. The Stanford University’s Sexual Health Peer Center reported that 25% of college students have either had a sexually transmitted disease or transmitted one to a sexual partner. One factor that contributes to the high rate of STDs on college campuses is that students do not use condoms during intercourse. Since studies show that STDs are more prevalent among college students, colleges and universities should take an active role in promoting safe sex.
