I recall Mine Safety and Health Adminstration Inspector Tony Benton issuing us a violation and shutting down the cutting machine for a damaged cable. However, I do not recall the date he issued the violation. Benton shut the cutting machine down because the 480 -volt cable suppling power to the cutting machine I was operating was in bad shape. The electrical tape was coming off the permanent splices; however, I did not see any damage to the conduit on the ground, monitor, and three hot wires inside the cutting machine cable. If the hot wires had come in contact with the metal frame of the cutting machine the ground wire would have forced the circuit breaker to trip removing the electrical power from the machine. I did not notice the condition nor had I had any trouble with the cutting machine cable before Benton issued the violation. The way I understand it is that Shot Firer Andy Lester found the guide bar welded to the back of the cutting machine was broken. However, I do not know when he found it, all I know is that the cable snagged the broken guide bar and tore the tape off the permanent
