It's human to not see everything. There is an excessive amount to see and process, so our personalities erase what it accepts to be pointless. Sometimes in life things are misunderstood due to lack of insight. In the “Cathedral,” the act of looking is identified with physical vision, yet the act of seeing requires a more profound level of engagement. The narrator shows he is capable of looking unlike Robert ,a blind man. With this the narrator feels he is superior to Robert. However, Robert is capable of “seeing” on a deeper level than the narrator. The relationship Robert holds with the narrator’s wife, he may not be able to physically see but he is capable of “seeing” and understanding her more than her own husband because he truly listens to her. Robert demonstrates that true seeing involves more than looking. The narrator was able to gain insight through a experience with Robert .
