Mission name: InSight
Target(s): The target of the InSight mission is to place a lander on Mars that would drill below the surface of Mars to investigate its interior structure. This mission is designed to get a better understanding of Mars' evolution. One of InSight’s main targets is to answer the question “How did the terrestrial planets form?”
Proposed launch year: May 5, 2018
MISSION SUMMARY (350-400 words)
InSight stands for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport. It is a NASA Discovery Program mission that will place a lander on Mars to get a better understanding of Mars’ interior. (Erickson & Green)1 InSight is not only a mission

The SEIS will capture Mars’ seismology and its internal activity. It will take measurements of the quakes of Mars as well as any other internal motion of planet Mars. (Erickson & Green) 1 The HP3 would take Mars’ temperature. This would be important for understanding the planetary evolution of Mars. InSight would also use a variety of different cameras that would give a 3D view of the ground of Mars. (Erickson & Green)1 Lastly, InSight would use RISE which is a device that would track Mars’ reflexes to the suns’ gravity. It would give precise measurements of how Mars wobbles in relation to its gravitational pull to the sun. (Erickson & Green)1
As stated on the NASA website InSight is scheduled for launch on May 2018 and is to arrive on Mars sometime November 2018. InSight will rely on proven technologies previously used on NASA's Mars Phoenix mission. The lander will travel on the Martian surface for two years investigating and analyzing the deep interior of Mars. (Erickson & Green)1
The initial budget for the InSight mission was $675 million. There were some delays in the mission because for instrument redesign. This delay added an additional $153.8 million dollars to the cost of this mission. (Webster

In December of 1962, the Mariner 2 mission was a success, and it marked the first space probe to flyby a planet. While revolutionary, the Mariner 2 mission only scratched the surface of what could be learned about the unknown planets. Almost two years would pass before the next successful mission would occur. heading towards Mars, the Mariner 4 space probe was launched on November 28, 1964. Few people believed that capturing images of the moon would be possible and even less believed in the possibility of photographing Mars.…

At the onset of every Star Trek episode, the booming voice of William Shatner paints a picture of the future in which humans venture into space “to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.” As a young child, this vision evoked an unabating wonder and passion for space. At that time, exploring space was a distant fantasy. However, upon discovering the power of science and technology in high school, I recognized it might not be so elusive after all. Business magnate, inventor, and engineer Elon Musk inspired me to pursue studies and a career in aerospace engineering, with the ultimate goal of making humanity a multi-planetary species.…

Though science has overcome many explorations that impact our world and society, it does include some limitations that are regulated. For example , money plays a huge role for budgeting all of the experiments that allow scientist to gather more information that could possibly be used for future inventions or solutions. The expenses going towards NASA’s “Mars 2020 Mission” are regulated by the President, who he has proposed $17.46 billion for the year of 2015. With that said, the incredible amount of money that is being funded by Obama each year for NASA is ,somewhat, a huge part of what the future holds. American innovation rest on the investments we make today.…
