Inside Sales vs. Outside Sales
Buyers and sellers are everywhere. Nevertheless, in essence there are, only two types of sellers, inside sales or outside sales. Both bring about the same result, which is, “to sell”. Various companies and corporations hire; in and outside associates are as follows; Copper State Nut and Bolt, UPS, Pepsi Cola, Budweiser, when in search of sales positions, the following should be considered, to become an outside sales associate; compared to that of an inside associate.
Customer service is an absolute in any sales position. Inside sales associates have the confines of speaking to customers from inside an office, but handle mundane customer service by taking orders from behind the desk, via email, or from the telephone. All inside sales representative must handle all quotes, which consists of receiving price and availability from vendors, which means a lot of organization, keep track of the various quotes. At times, they will speak to rude customers over the telephone or reading emails out of context. It is a rare occasion that they will form any type of relationship with a customer. Sure, they will be, reimbursed if taking a customer to lunch, but this is not their job description. They are not favored to take them to lunch, dinners or even a light social drink. It is unfortunate that these sales associates will not see and experience the social contact of the customers’ smiles on their face. In contrast, outside associates’ job description has these responsibilities, and not only lunch. The outsides sales force will take their customers to pro-football, basketball or baseball games. This not only ensures a bond with the customer and company, it will let the customer know that their business is appreciated and will go rewarded.
