The movie first establishes that one should accept all emotions through the use of Joy’s diction when describing Disgust. When Disgust first appears, Joy says that her job was to keep Riley from being poisoned physically and socially, and when Riley is getting ready for school, Joy entrusts Disgust with dressing Riley like a model. Joy is able to delegate important tasks to Disgust and speaks highly of her, which illustrates her admiration, confidence, and trust in Disgust; Joy evidently views Disgust as a vital part of the team. This admiration is immensely crucial because a positive emotion--one that most people try to align themselves with--is advocating for a more negative emotion. Moreover, if Joy is able to trust her then everyone should be able to too. Joy’s diction of faith in Disgust truly is key in changing Disgust image into one that is worth embracing.

Most of Disgust’s roles in Inside Out involve her loathing foods with broccoli on them and detesting Riley’s parents need to embarrass her. Disgust’s actions are ones that often spawn feelings of revulsion in people today. Furthermore, her feelings become more relatable as most people view things like gross foods, and being embarrassed as worthy of aversion. The fact that she becomes sickened by those things and used as a tool of reliability and not in a hateful manner towards others shows that she can be a positive aspect of everyone’s emotions that everyone has and not something that should be suppressed or hidden
