He explains that everyone must conform. in other words, “tabs, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K and L [must fit] into slots C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K and L”, and a person is not allowed to arrange themselves any other way (Perelman). His weakest arguments I believe are his attempts to show that people are all working against him, for example, his wife, asking him to not “start making excuses”, along with the factory worker who, in his opinion, punched out the wrong design on purpose (Perelman). His most effective argument in the essay must be his overall argument that people are confined to set steps and are trained to be physically unable to think beyond this scope. Perelman microscales his situation making the doctor represent the rest of the world and himself, a single person who refuses to be confined by the words on paper. The author’s metaphor, likening the doctor to a “leech” is appropriate as the doctor, or in this case, the world, is sucking the creativity out of Perelman and are trying to force him to follow the world-renowned and accepted
