In order to be successful in life, no individual needs to achieve a post-secondary education. Throughout their first year of college, David Yeager discovered students feel insecure in college. College persistence is the ability to survive college – self-control, self-sufficient, and feeling as though you belong. Self-control is mandatory meanwhile attending college because there are distractions surrounding you at all times. Students may feel as though they cannot control their actions, but there are precautionary measures to take in order to thrive in school. When a student has obligations at home, financial worries, or a learning disability, college can be a major hardship. During college everyone appears to be on their own accord. Each student has their own major and no one person is the same. Yeager learned that students who were in their freshman year felt as if they did not fit into the college environment. This trend is typical within freshman students due to the major changes being thrown at them. Research showed students who completed their freshman year of higher education were able to feel more comfortable the following years up to graduation. Furthermore, students whom utilize their resources and push towards the finish line will be able to successfully obtain their degree. To be triumphant throughout college is a mind game. The challenges one must face to accomplish a post-secondary education will not only set you up for a higher pay rate, but less stress throughout future life feats in general. College persistence will allow future collegiate candidates to know that a higher education is attainable. These persons need to be enlightened on the multitude of resources and avenues universities have available. If more people knew that self-control, self-sufficiency, and belongingness were within reach, then there would be a higher percentage of college
