The INTASC Standards for teacher development and evaluation have been developed and refined to focus on the following four areas: the learner and learning, content knowledge, instructional practice, and professional responsibility. The focus of this paper is the area of the learner and learning. In addressing the learner and learning, INTASC Principles 2, 3, 5, and 6 are instrumental in development and evaluation. INTASC Principle 2: Human Development and Learning states that the teacher understands how each student learns. The teacher can provide appropriate learning materials and opportunities. They must help the students with verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques. The teacher should also encourage collaboration between the teacher and students and between the students. Communication is important in a classroom, and the teacher is the one to start the interaction. As a teacher, I plan to use all of the INTASC Principles in my classroom. I will take in consideration that each student learns differently, and they learn at different paces. I will have art projects, singing, jumping, and writing involved in my classroom. Students learn with different materials, and it is important to observe the students and figure out what works with which student. I will get to know my students personally and academically. I will talk to each parent, and I will find out what their child likes. As a teacher, my classroom will be colorful. I want my classroom to be engaging.
