America, to some people, is known as the land of the free, but for others, the American society has become increasingly isolating and insane. Insane is defined as a state of mind that prevents normal perception, behavior, or social interaction. Some people say society as a whole is insane, others believe only certain people in the society are just battling with specific issues. However, listening and watching news stories about citizens being killed due to road rage, the open carry law passed by the state of Texas, and the increase in death rates caused by police officers proves that we are living in an unfair, unjust, and an insane society.
One example of insanity in our society is road rage. Studies show that at least 1,500 people are injured or killed in road rage incidents each year (Louis Mizell, AAA Foundation). For an example, an individual could have just had an argument with their spouse and an innocent person could unknowingly provoke them, causing them to react and, without thinking, pull out their weapon. A drunken person with a gun can become irate and just target people at any given location. Giving the maturity level of some adults, as well as adolescents, is like basically giving them a license to kill. Being licensed means you know how to use a firearm and are legal to carry the firearm; it does not mean that you know what situation is cause enough to use it in. There is no way of knowing who is capable of making rational or logical decisions when it comes to using a firearm.
