The novel is in no means telling or applying to the reader that you must follow the guidelines of the book but it is just informing us of something that we already kind of know deep down. When individuals say that love conquers all, they are absolutely correct. Individuals need something (ie. a pet) or someone that can comfort them on the days that they feel like their life is just getting a little too insane or overpowering. While Plato’s Symposium does end in a huge drinking party with everyone still hungover from the previous day, this shows a little insanity in their lives as they think it is okay to drown their sorrows with the bottle instead of talking to each other about things that they find enjoyable in the world around
