I foresee it doesn't prove Lennie wrong since George was just trying to help him get out of his misery or suffering that he could have had. Also, Lennie would have probably thanked him for killing him, he was going a Lennie a favor since they were probably going to kill him anyway. If George didn't shoot Lennie, he could have ended up being hurt badly by the angry mob or gone into jail or ended up dead worse than getting shot by George.
