Innocent deaths are essential to understanding the purpose of life. In the play Othello by William Shakespeare there are the deaths of five people. However, three of those deaths were of people who were portrayed as innocent. Each had been blinded to the truth and each deceived. Although, ignorance is considered bliss, Shakespeare teaches that this is false. Therefore, it should be considered that when characters and people die innocently, it provides an understanding to life and their role to the story.
By being deceived, characters continue to live life with a mask of lies on and unaware of the true events. They are blinded by the lies but will provide a lesson of what knowledge of surroundings hold. “O, …show more content…
Othello was the main hero at the beginning of the play but his absent mindedness to the truth caused him, his downfall and in turn earning the title of a murderer. And despite being an outsider, Othello earned a status that he wanted to obtained. He did whatever necessary for his duty. “O thou Othello, thou wert once so good, Fall'n in the practice of a damnèd slave, What shall be said to thee? (5.2.342-345). This is said by Lodovico (who is a relative of Desdemona) and how he thinks Othello has changed. He believes what Othello did was the opposite of noble. Iago was a prime example of wanting power because the main reason he wanted Othello to fall was for hist status. Due to his ambition to obtain power, he never gave the proper respect and love to Emilia. "I'll have the work ta'en out, And give't lago: what he will do with it ,Heaven knows, not I; I nothing but to please his fantasy.". (3.3.305-309). Emilia desires love from her husband so badly that she steals in hopes of his approval. But in the end, Iago still kills her for being disobedient due to his desire of power.
