The case is about if Adnan is innocent or guilty. Sarah Koenig's is the creator of serial and an investigator. The reason Sarah Koenig is part of this case is because she found out that this case could not be solved by other investigators. After investigating, it is clear that Adnan is innocent because someone is telling a lie, he was dating multiple people and wasn't that angry enough to kill her, and he wasn't showing signs of sadness and obsessed.
To begin with, Jay kept on changing the story that Adnan killed Hae it makes it seem like he's lying or hiding something. Sarah Koenig tells the audience that the police had a difficult time figuring out Jay’s story. She states, “The story Jay told police had problems, because it kept changing from telling to telling” (Ep. 1, p.6). Jay changing his story means that he might be lying because usually when someone changes their story it means that they don't want people to know that they did something. Wrongful Conviction On the morning of August 10, 1984, Deborah Sykes was brutally stabbed, sexually assaulted, and eventually killed in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The man convicted for her murder was Darryl Hunt, a 19 year old boy that would go on to spend 20 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Hunt was convicted based on eye-witness testimony and informants, but was later exonerated based on DNA evidence that matched a man that was caught just a few months after the murder took place. This case is an exemplar of the strength of DNA evidence and the fragility of eyewitness testimony.…

Not only that but the only person who claims to have seen him in that time frame “called one of the prosecutors in… the case…and undermined her own statement” proving his actual location was unknown at the time. It is unusual that Adnan would not remember anything about this crucial day because he received a phone call from the police. He says he does “remember that phone call and [he does] remember being high at the time” but continues to deny remembering anything else because the day was “normal”, but, receiving a phone call from the police does not seem very normal and most people would remember the events leading up to it. Another reason why Adnan is legally at fault is because he…

In his 1977 essay, “In Defense of Masks”, Kenneth Gergen introduces the concept of multiple personas and personalities as being ‘masks’. In his psychological and sociological research, Gergen concludes that people do not have a coherent sense of identity and need masks to be happy, healthy, and successful in society. I agree with Gergen because different situations call for different personalities; such as acting professional for a job interview, being lively with friends, or maintaining a perfect image of yourself for other. Most jobs call for a certain degree of professionalism. People put on masks while at work to give off an impression of uniformity.…

The second reason I think Adnan must be innocent is because there are too many inconsistencies that Jay provides during his testimony while being interviewed by the police. Jay provides many stories, which sometimes do not match up to Adnan’s story or to the stories he provides. There were many inconsistencies that did not make sense, of which I will share the 3 that I found most important, which you can find in episode 4 called “Inconsistencies". The…

Imprisonment within Revenge As humans, we have emotions that sometimes get the best of us. People tend to seek revenge in the heat of the moment or with a well carried out plan. The revenge, however, doesn't always bring that closure that is expected. Committing an act of revenge is deemed morally wrong. In “Clean” by Edward J. Delaney, the unnamed protagonist murders a peer out of jealousy in drunken rage, spur-of-moment decision.…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…

I think this case was poor executed, and they just arrested Adnan to have a person in custody for the crime. The first thing that swayed my mind to think of Adnan as an innocent person was the fact there was no physical evidence. How can you convict a person if you have absolutely no physical evidence what so ever? Sarah Koenig accepted the help from Deirdre Enright and her two team members. She gave Deirdre the case file, and Deirdre had two team members look the…

This proves the character to be very cautious and attentive. One example in particular that stands out is when the narrator accidently wakes the old man, and says, “For a whole hour I did not move a muscle, and I did not hear him lay down. He was still sitting-up; listening” (Poe105). This quote proves the killer to be very attentive.…

In the short story The Tell Tale Heart, Edgar Allan Poe writes about a character who is never differentiated between a male and a female. The narrator explains his reasoning behind murdering his neighbor, an innocent old man. The old man had never done anything to the narrator, but he or she felt like killing him was the best thing to do. Throughout the story the narrator uses pathos and ethos in order to convince the audience that he is somehow the victim in the story. The author never reveals the gender of the narrator in the story, most assume it is a male.…
