Another reason that sets the stories apart is the symbols they both have. After Jack puts the pigs head on the stick, that is when the boys lose themselves and become full on savages because of the loss of innocence. Golding conveys this by having the pigs head tell Simon, “I’m the reason why it’s no go? Why things are what they are?” (143). The pigs head questions if he is the reason why the boys have lost their innocence and he was partly correct. He was correct because if Jack never became obsessed with hunting pigs, he would have never made The Lord of the Flies (pigs head on a stick) and fully lost his innocence.
