These boys were left to fend for themselves. The boys take an object of interest and makes it a symbol of order. This is an example of symbolism in lord of the flies. These boys separate into groups as time goes by.This is our first example of foreshadowing. The separation represents different parts of society; logical, and observation are the traits piggy, ralph, and simon represent.The other group became the “hunters”, these boys were leaded by a character named Jack. The “hunters” would find food for the others, explore and map out the island. This group represented the radical, aggressive reactive part of society. All lead by one corrupt leader like many leaders of the world. Piggy in our story was looked at as the voice of reason. Piggy always articulated his feelings. He had many ideas on how to get along with one another. The key was communication between groups. Piggy and Ralph established an orderly way with handling with everyone. “The conch”, was an object that allowed people to talk and expressed what their ideas were without being interrupted. The island represents a biblical allusion of the garden of eden. All these boys end up on a island with food available,no rules because of the lack of the civilization, weather is not a huge problem, and there's enough people so no one can go insane. This is a land where the boys can wait and cooperate until getting rescued. They could come up with many different idea on how to get off the island and they did. This brings us to another literary element in our story. The signal fire that was to help the boys ended up doing the exact opposite. The signal fire got so big it burned up half off the island. This situation was ironic because of how many resources they lost that could have helped, not even mentioning all the few boys that lost their lives because of it. Another ironic situation in our story is what the boys become. When the boys were civilized, they agreed if they talked to one another, and had a democracy they would better their chances of surviving and wouldn’t become savages. Throughout our story we notice the boys slowly losing their connections with one another and the hunters of the island along with most of the other boys become savage. They even killed one another without a second
