Innocence, innocence one of hardest things in life for humans to strive to keep. People make choices to keep that innocence and not fall to corruption. Nathanial Hawthorne’s “Young Goodman Brown” told the story of a young man 's adventure down a dark path tainted by evil. Throughout the story, Brown slowly turned down his faith to accept the devil’s ways. Each event that happened in the story displayed Goodman Brown’s corruption and how it leads to his rejection of God. Brown showed his corruption through the start of his journey, events that happen in the woods and his life afterwards. The first person Goodman Brown meets is his wife faith, before he sets off on his journey into the woods. Faith begs Goodman Brown not go into the woods.

The old man Brown meet in the woods, was the devil. Brown’s naïve self only accepted all what the old man said. Brown falls for the man’s tricks because of his resemblance to his grandfather, the resemblance lead Brown to trust him like the old was his own grandfather. Brown accepted the serpent staff from the old man showing how Brown was willing to accept the ways of evil. Each religious figure Brown saw enter the woods, and how Brown easily question his religious faith, showed Brown’s lack of faith. The ribbon, Brown had found showed how he was quick to jump to conclusions. His love for Faith blinded his view of the situation he knew of the evil in the woods only to choose to pick up the staff and go to the meeting. Showed how he was willing to accept the devil. Brown may have not believed he had accepted the devil at the meeting, but through each event prior he had shown how he was willing to accept the devil and turn away
