Inner Conflicts In Ender's Game

Orson Scott Cards Ender’s Game is a science fiction novel set in the distant future, in a time when aliens have already attacked Earth twice and a worldwide birth limit has been imposed to moderate the excessively inflated population. During Ender’s time at the Battle School, Ender, a child, is exposed to many adverse encounters in this dystopian setting. However, it is his internal conflicts involving his principles and the effect of his older brother, Peter, and Colonel Graff, that are the most disturbing and challenge the reader. The author offers many stories of Ender being exposed to inhumane situations that are abnormal outside of the novel that are difficult for the reader to acknowledge.

Ender’s desire to remain innocent eventually becomes compromised through the influence of others, and it is this principle that dominates his inner conflicts. Graff is constantly “make[ing] [him] into [his] tool” having “just one more trick to play” Graff does this by making the “launches” hate Ender by persuading them that he “[is the]only boy on this launch with any brains” . this challenges the reader because the reader as “adults” are supposed to be role models and teaching children the right thing then what chance does humanity have ?
