Inmate Timberlake Case Summary

On 01-21-2017, at approximately 2115 hours, Inmate Timberlake, Norman T397504 returned to the Work Furlough search area at the Durango Jail located at 3225 W. Gibson Ln, Phoenix AZ 85009. Timberlake appeared disoriented; he was slurring his speech and could not keep his balance. Due to his behavior, Timberlake's blood alcohol content was measured using a handheld B.A.C. machine.

After a "0.00" reading on the B.A.C. machine, it was determined that Inmate Timberlake needed to be sent to the Lower Buckeye Jail to be medically cleared by CHS to return to the Durango Jail and his spot in the Work Furlough program. Inmate Timberlake was sat at the table in the Durango 1 housing unit multipurpose room to wait for transportation to take him to Lower Buckeye Jail.

At approximately 2140 hours, while Officers Leon B3411 and Taets B2643 were gathering up Inmate Timberlake's property, Inmate Timberlake attempted to get up from the table and walk toward the officers as they were coming out of A-Pod. Inmate Timberlake was unable to keep his balance and subsequently fell onto the floor and hit his head.

Officers Paris B3663, Gaitan B3865, Smith B3168, Balcom B3703 and Sergeants Salazar B0654 and Carden B0861 responded to the radio call along with RN Stacey RG710, Gayle AT061, Veronica RG776, and Verlinda 1519H. Due to Inmate Timberlake being unresponsive, the A.E.D (Automatic External Defibrillator) was utilized and RN Stacy started chest compressions. A radio call was made to Durango Security Control to have Phoenix Fire respond. As soon as RN Stacy started chest compressions, Timberlake opened his eyes and complained of pain from the compressions, he then continued to go in and out of
