According to an article by www.peta.org “Animals are unable to thrive in small enclosures, especially with unnatural weather and climates.” An example mentioned in the article is about “Lucy, the lone elephant at the Edmonton Zoo, [who] is locked inside a barn when the zoo is closed and during Edmonton’s frigid winter months, which means she spends most of her time indoors, without much room to move.” This lead to Lucy developing painful arthritis. Another example of an animal in aquariums that doesn’t have enough room is dolphins. According to an article by www.whalefacts.org “No tank can be big enough [for dolphins] as they can swim up to 100 miles a day and it is also impossible to replicate their natural environment in captivity.” Both of these animals are large and require a lot of space, but are only given a fraction of the space they require. These are a few examples that prove that animals aren’t given enough space at the zoo or aquarium.
These are a few of the many reasons that explain why wild animals in captivity is wrong. Animals in captivity is inhumane, shortens an animal’s life expectancy, and doesn’t provide animals with the space they require.
