Inhumane Death Penalty

Improved Essays
Life and death are two different things, but they go along together. When one life ends another one begins, it is the circle of life. Both are beautiful and strange and they should be respected. With this in mind, we should get rid of the death penalty. The death penalty should be terminated for good because it is inhumane, because the convicts can be innocent, and because it promotes violence.
Many people believe sentencing the criminal to the death penalty is the proper thing to do. Their reasons are that by executing criminals, crime rates will decrease in the community and it will bring the grieving families closure to see an end to them. By knowing they will cause no harm to anyone else. It is understandable that families would want to

It is inhumane because in many known cases it has been known for the officials to fail to execute the prisoners in a proper manner instead there is,“...rooms full of witnesses shifting miserably in their seats as unconscious men writhe and snort and gasp while strapped to gurneys...” (Drehle). That is a ghastly thing to watch and know you can not do anything about it. It also does not make you a better person than them, by doing the same thing they did. It is also inhumane because we are ending someone 's life something that we did not start, therefore, should not be allowed to end. Especially when there is a “...ban on cruel and unusual punishments...” (Drehle) and one is not able to follow those simple rules. These are the rules that are implemented to make sure that no one is treated unfairly. So everyone needs to follow the rules, and if they do decide to execute someone it should then be pain-free. Because it would then be a violation of our eighth amendment which is no cruel and unusual …show more content…
If we want to live in a society that does not kill, the United States of America should be a better role model to its people. The model should be that killing is wrong and that you will receive a punishment. Instead of having the model to be, killing is wrong so we will kill you. Society is like children and the United States of America is their role model. When you have role models you want to be like them and follow their example. If the example the United States of America puts is killing, society will see the example and will want to follow it. It is a cycle called, “The brutalization effect” (Brook) and it “suggests that when violence is condoned via the death penalty, more violence occurs” (Brook). It also has been said that, “The death penalty makes society more dangerous by further increasing violence through the brutalization effect”(Brook). So if we want a more admirable society, a better example should be placed upon the people and put an end to the death penalty to stop encouraging

If every form of death penalty is at risk of “extreme pain or torture” then no one should have to do die by being executed. Sentencing someone to death denies them the right to life – enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Right(Amnesty). The traditional method of death by hanging was also easily bungled: If the drop was too short, there would be a slow and agonizing death by strangulation; if the drop was too long, the individual’s head would be torn off (Aclu). Absolutely no one should have to die by having their head torn off or by strangulation, and if the death penalty has risks that big then nobody should have to be a victim of this cruel…

The death penalty should be abolished because it is not constitutional. The missions of the Founding Fathers were to promote a fair and equal administration of justice; and to act as a unified voice for every individual whether rich or poor with respect to issues of statewide. The belief is that justice for all is better served by a sentence of life imprisonment without the availability of parole than by implementing of the death penalty. Reichel (2013), explained “The constitutionality of sentences must be decided through judicial review of legislation because that is the process designed to protect the rights of minorities and others who are unable to adequately protect their rights through the democratic process” (p. 244). Families at large…

In conclusion, death penalty should be abolished as it takes too much money, executes innocent lives, and does not give a chance to the criminals to reform. The death penalty is also inhumane as one is killing another individual. By killing the criminal, there is no difference between the criminal and the government, as both of them are taking life of individuals. Instead of killing people, the criminals should be sentenced for life in prison and should bear the consequences of their…

In an article about constitutional rights it said, “The U.S. Supreme Court has determined that a penalty must be proportional to the crime; otherwise, the punishment violates the Eighth Amendment's prohibition against cruel and unusual punishments” (Legal Information Institute 2017). As people grow older they are always taught that no matter what a person has done to us, we are not supposed to impose the same force on the person who has hurt us. Yet the United States' legal system describes the death penalty as an eye for an eye. The death penalty goes against the moral rights of some and it is unjust that a jury of twelve gets to decide the fate of a someone else's life, there are many forms of punishment so why does the United States prefer this…

The word “death” is adept at sending a cold, frightening shiver down the spine of any human. It is a major fear factor that has been lurking around the corner since the beginning of time, for governments have been using death to their advantage to threaten and bend people to their own will since the eighteenth century B.C. The threat towards one life for not adhering to government laws is called capital punishment, and it is still very much active in present day society. In fact, the death penalty has been in America since the colonial times, 31 US states still use capital punishment, and there has been numerous controversies surrounding the death penalty on whether it is being disproportionately subjected onto minority groups. Capital punishment was an idea brought to America by British and other European explorers.…

The main evidence is a case example of Roy Blankenship, a convicted felon who was executed with pentobarbital (barbiturate) in Georgia in June of 2011. The evidence explains how “[Blankenship] jerked his head, grimaced, gasped, and lurched, according to a medical expert’s affidavit” (7). The presented evidence is strong because having ideas of these graphic events that led to Blankenship’s death shows a major red flag under the 8th Amendment of the Constitution. What is supposed to be the safe and humane method of execution turns out to have the capability to pose much of the inhumane consequences seen in other execution forms that induce “unnecessary” suffering when executing. This evidence, however, fails to disclose how prevalent incidences such as these occur in lethal execution.…

“Officials in California delayed the execution of 46-year-old Michael Morales, sentenced to death for a 1981 murder. His lawyers argued that a lethal injection would constitute cruel and unusual punishment, prohibited under the US constitution” (Hooper). But, that is not true, the Supreme Court along with the people who give and handle the ways the death penalty is given have stated that, yes, sometimes the death penalty and the way it 's done will cause some pain. They also state that the death penalty is not unconstitutional just by the fact of how much pain is given along with the penalty. As stated earlier the Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty is humane and that cruel and unusual punishment is only when excessive torture is given.…
