This chapter is one inserted into the book Inheritance, from the series Inheritance Cycle. The series revolves around the protagonist Eragon and his companion dragon Saphira and his ongoing conflict to free the magical realm of Alagaesia from the evil reign of Galbatorix. Blödhgarm and his company are a group of the best elven mages sworn to protect Eragon and Arya is daughter of the Elven queen. Elva was created in Eragon’s inexperience; Elva was a baby who a spell was placed on accidently by Eragon, which compels her to feel the pain of others before it happens, making her skills invaluable for Eragon and the Varden. Further on in the chapter Eragon experiences creatures called Shades. Shades are the result of spell casters being taken over by spirits and their body is consumed and corrupted, making them all but indestructible. Paolini’s style has been captured by showing extensive characters of the characters and an idea of their morals and what they stand for is shown in the short story and the chapter also shows extensive use of adjectives to help paint a vivid picture of the scene. Incorporated in this chapter is the themes of friendship and free will; the friendship of Saphira and Eragon is blatant and free will is displayed in combatting the Shades to try and free themselves of the control of Galbatorix.
