During the trial Brady is hit by the unexpected defeat that Drummond placed upon Brady. Brady has no idea what he did wrong. Therefore he is a narrow-minded character who only believes what the Bible states is correct. He struggles to realize that the Holy Bible is open for interpretation. Brady not only lacks awareness of an extended Bible interpretation, but lacks knowledge in losing and his right from wrong. He is not used to losing, in his mind he is used to winning. As the trial comes to an end the crowd begins to have a different understanding of Brady as well as the Holy Bible, “…the crowd seems to be slipping away from BRADY and aligning itself more and more with Drummond” (Lawrence and Lee 94) During the course of the play Brady is getting all of the attention and the glory.
