Christianity, or rather the bible, is marketed in Hillsboro and its real world inspiration by means of how Christianity is a dominant culture in both aspects and despising anything that goes against it, makes it a region easy for making money. This is obvious when Hawker and Elijah attempt to sell their products to a consumer; "Hot dog?" (Lawrence and Lee 15), "Bible?" (Lawrence and Lee 15) . This use of juxtaposition presents to the audience of how the bible is just as normal and common to sell as a hot dog because of how religious the community is. There is also an understanding that by having a trial on religion versus science, there is a higher tendency people would buy the bible to support religion and to not forget the holy words of god when taking a look at evolution. This hatred towards evolution in a heavy Christian society makes it an ideal ground for people, such as Elijah, to be selling bibles because he knows the majority support the side of religion, therefore bringing in sales on a religious book like the
