Presentation of the problem: Client is unaware of career interest and is interested in obtaining a college major. Within the first week of working with Leslie, the implementation of informed consent will take place. Also, the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) will be provided via computer to obtain a comprehensive career report. The comprehensive report will guide the career counselor and Leslie toward the specific outcomes and goals relating to her career interest. Leslie and her mother will be present during the informed consent process. According to ACA Code of Ethics (2014) A.2.d. states the necessity for Leslie to give assent and her mother to provide consent (pg. 4). Also, within the informed consent process, the NCDA Code of Ethics (2015) E.3.a identifies the importance of the career counselor to explain the use and intention of the assessment instruments being provided (pg. 13). NCDA Code of Ethics (2015) B.8.c identifies the importance for a career counselor to avoid releasing any information about Leslie that may reveal her identify (pg. 9). Leslie and the career counselor will work collaboratively to obtain a shadow experience for Leslie during week four of the career intervention plan. Leslie and her career counselor will not have a physical meeting during week four. However, Leslie will be encouraged to write a summary of her experience including her likes and dislikes about the occupational role she is shadowing during week four. She is also encouraged to ask various questions to the professional that will enhance her view and perspective of the occupation.
