#1 Stress is a situation that disturb the equilibrium between a living organism and its environment. Knowing that this is a natural and normal reaction to public speaking is the first step to controlling it. Reassuring the other student that this is a normal process that almost everyone feels will start alleviating the stress. Preparation anxiety can be defused by taking short relaxing breaks that allow your focus and confidence to return. Pre-performance anxiety can be reduced by using anxiety stop-time technique. Allowing anxiety for a few minutes is ok, then set a time for confidence to overtake the anxiety and allow the completion of the practice time. Speech time anxiety can be reduced by knowing the material. Practicing the speech is one of the best ways for me to reduce the jitters. Confidence will replace anxiety if the speech is well researched and practiced. The one tactic that works for not only speech anxiety, but stress and anxiety of all types is meditation. Letting the stress melt away while clearing your mind is a sure fire way to succeed in life.
#3 Plagiarism is very serious at any level, but outright using of an entire article and claiming it as your own tops the list in speech class. My view is that the speaker needs to be confronted privately in a firm yet caring way. I may not know the history of this student, nor do I know the

If you overestimate what the audience knows then they may tune out, get lost and miss the point you are trying to convey. To help avoid this situation make sure to relate the subject directly to the audience, don 't be too technical, personalize your ideas, and be creative. Reading your audience during the speech is a good way to judge their comprehension. Avoiding eye contact with you is a key that they are not engaged and may not understand the subject matter. A quick Q&A could help identify the deficiencies and get you back on

Public speaking can be very hard for some people, and it can make a huge first impression. In the book An Essential Guide to Public Speaking by Quentin Schultze it goes deeper than just talking to a regular audience. It talks about being a Christian and handling public speaking. This is a great book to learn about how to be a public speaker and a Christian but not to lose your audience by talking too much about God or not enough. When someone says a free society in public speaking it opens, it appeals to a lot more people.…

I would consider myself moderately anxious about public speaking. I remember the first few communication apprehensions I experienced in my personal and work life. With my personal experience, I was at church when I shared a testimony with the bible study. With my work encounter, I had to conduct status updates for two areas during project implementations and testing phases with a large group. In both situations, my heart pounded loudly right before I spoke and when the words came out of my mouth, I felt like I had to speak quickly like Speedy Gonzalez!…

Once I’m able to do this, I think that skill will carry over past the class and help me in my specific career path which is one of the most important things about the class to me. Another idea that the book mentioned that I think could be good for me is using movement to minimize anxiety. “You don’t have to stand perfectly still behind the podium when you deliver a speech. Walk around as you make some of your points. Movement relieves tension and helps hold the audience’s attention.”…

Some of us might ever feel stage fright when we have to give a presentation. We might feel nervous, our heart pounding so fast, our palms become sweaty, and our voice sound unsteady. In our mind, we have thought that that we are worry about the presentation, whether the content is good or not. We also worry about the audience opinion, what kind of their perception about our presentation, negatively or positively. Somehow we afraid when people staring at us as the center of attention.…

Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

Introduction: Attention Arousing and Orienting Material: I first became aware of anxiety when I was in high school. That’s when I realized I was different than everyone else, or at least from most. I couldn’t talk in front of the class or become friends with new people because I just couldn’t talk to anyone. The idea of people watching me was terrifying. Unfortunately, I didn’t know how serious anxiety could be when I was in high school.…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

Communication shares ideas, thoughts and feeling with others. However, effective communication is contingent upon the context in which we live as well as the audience to whom we speak. For instance, communication has a huge role to play in the workplace as managers try to get the best out of employees. As managers soar to top management positions and roles change, many fail to upgrade communication skills. Personally, it is a place of isolation.…

Although I feel that I did an adequate job on the group project one of the most important skills that I desperately need to improve on is learning to present in front of an audience. We had two assignments this semester that revolved around speaking in front of our class, the first being a speech by ourselves and the second being the group presentation. I am a cheerleader, so being in front of crowds does not bother me but what makes me the most nervous is when I have to speak in front of others by reading something I have written or completed. In the group presentation I was not as nervous since I was not alone in speaking to the class, but on the speech I did I was overcome with anxiety. Being able to talk in front of others is my biggest setback, but I am certain that with enough practice, patience, and preparation I will be able to calmly give a speech over any subject that I am required to do.…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
