Amber Klinkhammer
Introduction:
I. Attention Getter: A candy bar, a simple sweet candy bar calling your name. Have you ever thought that a candy bar could kill someone? For somebody with diabetes that is exactly what a candy bar could do.
II. Listener Relevance: This is an especially scary disease because anybody who makes poor lifestyle choices can end up with type 2 diabetes.
III. Speaker Credibility: I know several people with type 2 diabetes, including my mom and aunts. I have also seen first-hand the effects it can have on a person’s lifestyle.
IV. Thesis: Type 2 diabetes is a serious disease that I am here to inform you about.

First Main Point: First off I would like to talk about type 2 diabetes and how it is different than type 1.
A. In general diabetes is a condition in which the amount of sugar in your blood is higher than it should be.

Transition: Now that you have a basic idea of what type 2 diabetes is, I will explain how it can be treated.
II. Second Main Point: There are different ways to treat type 2 diabetes.
A. Many people use pills to treat type 2 diabetes
B. Weight loss surgery may also be helpful in treating type 2 diabetes, depending on what type of surgery is done and your BMI (Mayo Clinic, 2014).
Transition: Finally I will talk about ways you can prevent type 2 diabetes. III: Third Main Point: Diabetes may be a daunting disease but you can prevent it.
A. One way to make sure you don’t get type 2 diabetes is to eat a healthy diet.
B. People who smoke 20 or more cigarettes a day are more likely to have diabetes (Hill, 2009, p. 26).
Transition: Now that you have been informed on how to prevent diabetes, let’s take a look back at the other things you learned today.
