Specific Purpose: to inform everyone in my audience about cancer

INTRODUCTION A) According to CDC.gov, more than 14 people are diagnosed with some form of cancer each year. Of those 14, about 8 million people die from cancer each year. B) From watching a very close friend get treated with brain cancer, I've seen first hand that cancer can affect anyone. C) Today I will discuss with you what cancer is, the different ways to help prevent cancer growth, and also the different types of treatments that can be used for cancer. TRANSITION: I will begin with explaining what cancer is.

TRANSITION: Next, I will explain to you different ways to help prevent cancers from forming.

Main point 2) There are different measures that can be taken to help lower a person's chance of developing cancer. A) Different lifestyles can have a huge impact of future cancer development. 1. Trying to prevent cancer would include the isolation of smoking and drinking. 2. Being active and maintaining a healthy weight is a good step in trying to avoid cancer.

TRANSITION: Finally I will discuss the different treatments for cancer.

Main point 3) The are various methods of treatments when it comes to cancer. A) According to the American Cancer Society, surgery is the most popular choice and offers the greatest chance for cure. 1. 60% of cancer paients chose some form of surgey. 2. Surgery is the oldest form of
