How many of you like J-ELLO? Go to the grocery store and pick up a box of J-ELLO. If you look at the ingredients you’ll find that the typical ingredients are Sugar, Gelatin, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Acids and Colorings. But just your ordinary average J-ELLO or Gelatin has some weird and interesting uses. Some interesting uses for Gelatin could be making marshmallows, or you can wrestle in it or you can use it to style your hair. Style your hair? WHAT! Yes that’s rite, only certain people use gelatin for styling their hair and those people are known as synchronized swimmers. They work on flexibility ( you have to have flat splits if you want to be on the national team or to got to Olympics), endurance ( like speed swimming and running), and they also use weights such as ankle weights and weight belts that go around your waist. They are usually up to 6-7 pounds. And they use those in the water to help them get higher when taking them off. They also use toe bands to get the perfect point in the water. Much of all synchronized swimmers work is done under the water though. The coach will choreograph 3-5 minute routines and more than half of it will be under water. If you’re a synchronized swimmer you have to learn how to hold your breath for a very long time. You could be under water for a minute if your coach choreographed it that way. Another difficult thing in the routines when you are above water and you have to tread it. Sometimes at practices the coaches wont even let you touch the wall, and remind you that we swim in 12 feet of water. Lastly, for synchronized swimming with all that training and perfecting of routines, there are the occasional swim meets. I go to at least 4 or 5 a year, depending on qualifications. For swim meets we take all the routines that have qualified in the region to go and there are different categories you put your routine in. The categories are Team, which includes a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 people, then there is trio, which is tree people, then duet, which is 2 people, then solo, which is
