On TV, people who sleepwalk generally act like zombies, they stagger along with their arms held stiffly in front of them. In fact, (as you know if you've ever seen one), most sleepwalkers walk around quite normally. They may even perform routine tasks, such as getting dressed or brushing their teeth. Sometimes they talk, although their conversation may not make a lot of sense. Sleepwalking is fairly common behavior. Especially among children. It occurs during periods of very deep sleep. In most cases, a person sleepwalks just a few times, then the sleepwalking stops forever. If sleepwalking becomes a frequent problem the sleepwalker may need a doctor's help. The Safe Sleep Program was established to educate infant caregivers on the merits of safe sleep practices, such as overlays, rollover deaths, and other SID related injuries. Temporary economic setback and limited funding spurred Illinois to look beyond conventional views and seek new insights to address the state’s high infant mortality rate which has been attributed to unsafe sleep practices, environments, and other child safety concerns. As a result of the growth and success of Missouri’s program, the initiative gained quick attention in Illinois, and was adopted in the counties of Cahokia, St. Clair, and Madison. Since the onset of this cross market collaboration, the program is becoming a major cornerstone for education, and tangible resources. The program has been invaluable to Illinois caregivers that were having to commute to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Medical Center in St. Louis to use services.…
