Pitbulls are often overlooked in shelters due to their terrible reputation. But pitbulls are one of the most trainable dogs. In 2001 50 pitbulls were seized from a dog fighting ring Bad Newz Kennels, ran by NFL athlete Michael Vick. Most of these dogs had only known the ring and were born into it. Out of all 50 only 1 had to be euthanized to do behavioral problems. Many of the dogs rescued from Bad Newz have been rehabilitated and deemed safe to be adopted. 5 of the Michael Vick dogs are therapy dogs and 6 others have earned their Canine Good Citizen certificate. In 2016 the state New York rescued their first pitbull, Kiah, to be trained to work alongside the Poughkeepsie police force. Kiah was hit in the head with a hammer shortly before coming into the shelter. With a little love, patience, and training, Kiah was sworn in to be Poughkeepsie’s K9 officer. Shortly after Ohio joined in and rescued Leonard off of death row, despite being deemed aggressive, to become Clay Townships first official police

Most myths regarding pit bulls are based in fear, and almost all of them are proven fallacies. Pit bulls are not the only breed of dog that can have negative, aggressive tendencies based on its upbringing and other circumstances, but certainly an attack on an animal or a person by a pit bull is much more likely to be reported on the news, resulting in the creation of a bad reputation for pit bulls everywhere. Unfortunately, it is this belief that has caused some areas to put out bans on the entire breed. Not until people realize that any animal, even a pit bull, can be a very gentle, kind-hearted partner for life simply by raising the animal in the correct way, will pit bulls finally be rid of the negative and unfair reputation surrounding their…

Pit Bulls Should Not Be Banned Pit bulls are often called violent dogs. They are stigmatized as the breed often known as fighting dogs. These dogs are singled out to be restrained or banned and are put to death just for their breed. In Lafayette, Louisiana, two men were arrested for dog fighting and fifty-seven pit bulls were confiscated. Some of the confiscated dogs had scars from fighting, and just because of the breed’s reputation, all of the dogs were considered dangerous.…

The reason a lot of bad people used these dogs is because they 're so loyal and they want to please their owner, so if the owner says to do something or the dog is trained a certain way, it 's going to do it. This is another reason these dogs are feared . Truth be told, this is not what Pits are meant for, according to “Pitbull Myths”, “This breed is routinely used for: obedience trialing, conformation showing, weight pull, Schutzhund (a German sport which requires dogs to perform in obedience, tracking and protection phases of a competition), agility, and have even been known to…
