I. Introduction
A. On an adventure to Milwaukee any tourist would go to the Milwaukee County Zoo. The first stop is always the penguin habitat.
B. Have you ever paid attention to what species it is or where they came from?
C. When we see penguins it is always in the zoo or part of an animation production. Here are 3 ways to analyze penguins from what is shown on the big screen to the natural habitat.
II. When I think of penguins I think of penguins of Madagascar or the Pittsburg penguins.
III. Media does not represent the penguins correctly
A. Penguins in the movies are often the body shape of penguins but the feather distinctions are incorrect.
2. Pittsburg penguins look like a 5 year old drew it
3. Every species has a different pattern of feathers while most media shows a mix between all of the species.

None of the media represented penguins are seen slowly dying from mercury poisoning. Carravieri says in Penguins as bio indicators of mercury contamination in the Southern Ocean that “Leaving top predators like penguins at risk of high contamination levels through food intake.” This means the more seafood penguins eat the more mercury is in their blood system.
C. Penguins catch prey with bills and swallow while continuously swimming.
1. Penguins have spiny tongues and powerful jaws to keep slippery prey in their mouths (Sea World).
a. Penguins are in their element in the water. That is where their food is, it is where they are most active, and it is where their predators are.
2. On land penguins do not have natural predators but in the sea is a hunting ground for both penguins and the penguin’s predators.
a. Penguins travel far distances away from the colony and under the water to catch fish. The distance ranges from 9-559 mi for Adelies and for emperor penguins will travel from 102 – 903 mi for a single trip (Sea World).
VI. No matter how far penguins travel to get food they always stay in the southern
