Informative Speech On Human Trafficking

Improved Essays
The last informative speech that will be analyzed is a speech on the topic of human trafficking. The speaker delivering the speech is dressed in appropriate attire that makes her look put together, which helps convey the seriousness of the speech she is about to give. This speech is a good example of how an informative speech is supposed to be delivered as the speaker met the criteria on how to give a proper informative speech, relating to presentation style. The speaker shows good body language for the sitting position she is in. She presented a lot of eye contact and a reasonable amount of movement that helped convey her message. Although the speaker spoke softly making it hard to hear her speech at times, she had good clarity with her words

These flyers for Rhonda Patterson’s speech about sex trafficking can be seen all over campus, and target all students and faculty in order to spread awareness of sex slavery. This is an extremely visually appealing and emotionally effective document, eliciting feelings of urgency and sympathy. This document’s success is largely attributable to the exemplary use of gestalts. The faces in the corners of the pages are fantastic examples of the Gestalt principle of proximity at work. The parts of different individuals’ faces connect to create the appearance of a single face through their overlapping boundaries, which is an incredibly effective means for conveying the diversity of the victims of sex trafficking.…

The foods that we eat are intimately connected to human trafficking and slavery mainly because the people who harvest the fruits and vegetables we eat are often people who have been kidnapped to work as slaves. This practice is tolerated mainly because labor laws are outdated and go all the way back to the time of the Great Depression (Source 1). These labor laws are rarely ever enforced harshly. The tomato growing industries in South Florida is one of the largest benefactors that use enslaved workers to harvest their crop. Benefactors that use house slaves have them in deplorable conditions and beat them if they are too sick or weak to work.…

Activist Idea Idea #1 I propose to conduct a Human Trafficking awareness campaign aimed at educating current social workers and therapists on how to identify, intervene and advocate for these victims. I will utilize a questionnaire testing the worker?s knowledge on the subject prior to the power-point presentation. Social workers are one of the types of professionals who will encounter human trafficking victims in their practice and depending on their education on the subject, they may not know how to identify or intervene with this population. Through increased knowledge about human trafficking, social workers/therapists are better able to build trust with the victims.…

Furthermore, Caroline, a seventeen year old victim notes, “Customers like it if you’re high, because they can take advantage of you.” Even if these girls escape alive, they may never feel safe despite living in safe houses and participating in the therapy sessions provided to them (Collins, 2011). Some will not release their pimps names in fear of backlash and physical harm. 92% of women say they want to leave the business, but feel that they cannot due to a lack of food and money. If economic, psychological, basic need support, and safety can be provided, women involved in the industry may feel more comfortable leaving and getting back on their feet.…

After noticing the speaker’s confidence during the speech, it became clear that his calmness and ability to speak clearly, his ability to refer to his notes and to use the power point at the same time and also his ability to ensure he was the source of the information he was giving made his delivery good. This informative speech could have been improved with more body movement during the transitions and a good eye contact with the…

Next, dominant ethical theory to be applied to the topic of human trafficking is Deontology. First, the argument against human traffickers specifically to contemplate whether those individuals who are receiving favors from traffickers have the rights to put others into a situation whether the other person in harm or in danger. For instance, there are estimates of trafficked victims to have experienced the dark side of human trafficking each year from these illicit activities such as sexual exploitation, forced labor, debt bondage, organ donors, slavery and slave-like practices, serfdom and forced marriage, etc. that are treated inhumanely by starvation, rape, gang rape, physical abuse, beatings, confinement, threats, force drug use and mental/emotional…

Nevertheless, I knew that I would achieve some form of catharsis if I took this assignment as seriously as a possibly could. From watching the persuasive speech, it is a recurring theme in my process of watching myself speak that I am much more sympathetic of myself after given said speech. What I immediately notice is that certain planned maneuvers such as the introduction weren’t always as clear as I wanted them to be. The flash cards that I help up might have been more effective if I had less content on them.…

Her word choice was carefully picked, precise and clean. Her tone was a calm yet persistent one where one could see how subtle but also determined she was on her work. She would pause just enough to make a clean speech, she didn’t hurry off or seemed nervous in any way which only interested the audience into paying attention to her. However, one may think that she would have an even more effective speech if she would of played with her voice a little more or do some sort of hand gestures. If she would have changed her voice into a stronger one she maybe could have expressed some strong feeling that wasn’t empathy or remorse.…

Individual Reflection This semester, I have learned about overall human rights, the theories of Hobbes and Locke, women’s human rights, genocide, group rights, and healthcare rights. This class challenged me to think deeper about what I personally believe and about our global problems. Because of our group research about human trafficking in Cambodia, I learned much more about women’s human rights violations than I ever would have found out. Two of the works that resonated with me this semester because of class discussions are Mackinnon’s text Rape, Genocide, and Women’s Human Rights, and excerpts from Sontag’s…
