Informative Speech On Hispanic Women

Heroes, what goes through your mind when you hear the word heroes? Do you think of brave soldiers, officers, or local first responders? Would if I said Hispanic heroes, would your point of view change? How about an immigrant Hispanic woman that fights for equality and opportunity as a government leader? I’m going to tell you about a heroic woman named Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Ileana was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1952 (Voisin 2016). She was just a girl at the age of eight, when her family was forced to flee from their home due to the communist regime of Fidel Castro. They landed in Miami and made Florida their permanent home. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is a Florida Politian, of Hispanic heritage who has always wanted to help establish education for all people. She has Doctorate in Education from UM. She started her career as a Florida certified teacher founding, and serving as a principal of a private bilingual elementary school. Parents and students inspired her to enter public service. My cousin, Celine Jackson a Hispanic-American, lived in Colima, Mexico for six years. She is part of the culture and heritage of this community and these are her views on Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Celine feels that Ileana is powerful and inspiring. She inspires Celine by making differences in other people’s lives. When I read Ileana Ros-Lehtinen’s biography to her, the first response she gave me was “that is so cool”. Then I asked her what comes to mind when I say the word hero, she said “Native American”. Then I asked the same question but with Hispanic hero and she had the same response. I did not tell her she was a Politian, and when I asked “do you think Politian’s are heroes”, she said NO!
