Informative Speech On Cancer Research Paper

According to the American Cancer Society, “About half of all men and one-third of all women in the US will develop cancer during their lifetimes.” Though cancer has been a prevalent issue throughout history, it has continued to manifest and remains a one of the top ten causes of death in the United States. It’s hard to walk into a room full of people and find someone who doesn’t at least know someone who has or has had cancer. Cancer itself is very well-known, but a cure for cancer remains unknown. An unknown that I would like to see revealed in my lifetime is a cure for cancer. Last week in my AP Biology class, my teacher addressed the class with one simple questions; how many of you know someone who now has or has had cancer? Every single student in the classroom silently raised a hand to signify that they know someone who has or has had cancer. The answer to this question probably would not have differed much if it was asked in any other classroom within the walls of my school that day. Finding a cure for cancer is of personal importance for me because my grandfather was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma, if not caught early, is often a terminal form of cancer and can only be treated with methods that will stretch out the remaining years of your life, not save it. Even after exhausting every treatment, including a stem cell transplant, my grandfather’s prognosis is still only five to ten years. My grandfather will always be living with cancer, he will never experience remission. Not only is finding a cure for cancer important for all the other kids in my biology class and the people they know who have dealt with the effects of cancer, it’s important for me and my grandfather as
