Presentation Rationale
Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to inform my audience that concentration problems at work could be improved by getting adequate sleep at night and better time management I want my audience to acknowledge that modifying these 2 items can improve productivity and safety at work. My central idea is that by making just a few changes a person can improve their work performance by improving concentration and managing time more effectively.
Intended Audience: The audience for this speech would be those in management/leadership positions and business owners. The topic would also be beneficial to a larger group. The topic is also appropriate for any person who would like to see improvement in their own focus at work.

Thesis statement: Research suggests that concentration problems at work can occur as a result of inadequate sleep and poor time management.

i. Inadequate rest can result in concentration problems at work ii. Proper time management practices can help to minimize distractions at work.
II. Main Point 1: Inadequate rest and fatigue at work leads to increased concentration problems at work and poor performance.
a. Many people experience problems concentrating this is normal and can happen on a reoccurring basis for countless people. Experiencing tiredness combined with emotional stress will cause attention problems in many individuals (Stöppler).
i. When you are tired it is tough to concentrate even when you have few distractions. Too little sleep can reduce your attention span and short-term memory (WebMD, 2014). ii. How often is the modern office worker interrupted? How long does it take people to get back on task (Pattison, 2008)?

Dealing with distractions on a daily basis most likely happens to everyone; regardless of where you work or what type of job you do (Mind Tools Editorial Team n.d.). ii. Working smarter not harder is not a new phrase. By making a few small changes to some common problems at work can make this a true statement for a lot of people (Page, n.d.).
IV. Conclusion
a. Restatement of thesis: Making a few changes in your sleep patterns and time management practices can help you to minimize distractions at work.
b. Summary of main points:
i. Improving your off time practices of resting and getting adequate sleep can improve your concentration and work performance. ii. Learning time management techniques will aid in improving your work performance.
