Informative Speech Video Assignment

Upon completing my informative speech on grocery store bakery cupcakes versus homemade cupcakes I was pleasantly surprised. I reviewed my main points, but didn’t try to memorize my speech. I could have done a few things better, but overall I believe I did well. I personally think that I improved from my demonstration speech to my informative speech.
The introduction to my speech went very well in my opinion. I knew what I was going to say to gain the attention of my audience and I believe I achieved that. I started off with a statement about how almost everyone has had a grocery store birthday cake at one point in his or her lives. This helped to connect my audience to my speech. This was similar to the introduction of my demonstration speech. I also gained credibility by stating that I have worked in both a grocery store bakery and an

Vani Hari’s blog post, “Why You Shouldn’t Buy Supermarket Birthday Cakes,” gave me factual credibility about the ingredients used in supermarket baked goods, which was a big point in my speech. In Rachel Hennessey’s blog post, “Living In Color, The Potential Danger Of Artificial Food Dyes,” gave me information on the causes of ADHD based on the consumption of food dyes. The information on ADHD brings the issues to the attention of my audience because it is a big problem in today’s youth.
In my first transition I state that I am going to talk about my background. This transition is what gave me credibility. I go into my real world experience with my topic and it rounds out my introduction and my first main point. Another important transition was when I stated that some people may like frost-bite flavored cake and that I was going to talk about more serious issues. This added humor to my speech, but then added opposition by stating that a serious issue was about to be

On March 16th 2017, Natalie Daguiam delivered a persuasive speech to the Speech 2001 class of 25 people at Western University on why sugar is an addictive substance using a PowerPoint presentation as a visual aid. Natalie began her speech with some effective hooks, noticeably grabbing the attention of the audience. This was done in a two-step process, in which she first asked the audience “How do you live a good life?” a general question which seemed to attract some audience attention. She then transitioned into her topic by showing very spectacular and indulging images of sweet desserts while describing how delicious they are, effectively using visual rhetoric to grasp the attention of the remainder of the audience and enhance the pathos of her speech.…

My outside speaker critique I attended a class where my introduction to supply chain management professor brought in Andrew Goltra who is currently the Director of Merchandising at ULine. Andrew’s presentation took about an hour or so. Andrew Goltra was a very good speaker, but there was definitely some room for improvement based off what I have learned about with presentation best practices. I could have a long list of both good and bad aspects during his presentation, but for the sake of this assignment I’m going to focus on five aspects from his speech that involved both good and bad practices. The pros of Andrew Goltra’s presentation include: how he established his credibility, usage of visual aids, and his delivery; The cons of the presentation…

On my demonstrative speech called “How to Play a Guitar,” I pull out different topics related with the instrument like the parts of the guitar, music theory, and the diverse skills playing it. For instance, I spend several weeks figuring out my theme. At the end I found this topic, but like was little late I spent more time in some areas than others ones. One of that well developed areas was my attention getter; was strong enough to hook the people. But, for future speeches maybe using a real guitar or pre-recording music, because it would impact my audience in a different way.…

After reviewing my persuasive speech over why the University of Oklahoma is the best university in the nation, I would sum up my speech as a little bit of train wreck. Although I made good claims with factual evidence, the amount of stuttering I did, and all the times I was choked up throughout the speech drew my audience’s attention away. From this, I lost my audience’s belief that I was competent of the information I was reiterating to them. At the introduction of my speech I believe I started out fairly strong and gave a good run down of the coming speech.…

I was recently invited to attend the Toastmasters meeting in Millington, Tennessee, however I was not entirely sure what to expect. I was, to say the least, surprised at how informal and socially casual the club is. In contrast with a TED talk’s audience, there is no harsh buzzer or overbearing timer to stare at while giving your presentation, the meeting was in fact, very relaxed and only focused on self-improvement. It was a place to hear others and be heard yourself, to give honest feedback, to improve the art of the conversation, and to master the art of public speaking.…

I started with my purpose statement, and continued on with my attention step, introduction to my topic, relation to the audience, ethos statement, and my thesis. This period was from the very beginning of my speech until about 1:00 in. I then followed with a transition into my first topic, followed by another transition, my second topic, and so on and while ending with my conclusion. Although I followed the criteria for the assignment, my organization was not the best.…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…
