Informative post Brigid, I think this line in your post "a company can overlap the marketing campaign to not only appeal to a consumer who is materialistic but also to the consumer who has the need of uniqueness trait" encompases something that I think is quite important and could be one of the central reasons why businesses group individuals and carry out consnumer researches with consumers who dont have identical personalities.

I think business also do this for the sake of exposure and reduce the number of segments they have to create.
