When Bryant was six years old he and his family moved to Italy. Bryant recalled always being with his family when going out since they didn’t know the language. After a few years there he learned how to speak Italian and is now fluent speaker. The family returned to live in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania a suburb of Philadelphia when Bryant was fourteen. He and his sisters had a hard time adjusting to school in the United States. The Bryant children did not know about locking up their possessions they did not use lockers in Italy and they were shocked when someone stole their valuables.
Bryant attended Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. He earned a spot on the varsity team as a freshman. As a junior Bryant averaged 31.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 3.8 blocks, and 2 steals. Lower Merion advanced to the state semifinals. He picked Bryant to take the Lakers' final shot, one that would decide if they would win the game or go to overtime. The rookie got his shot off from 14 feet, but missed the basket entirely. The game progressed through overtime. With 11.3 seconds left, the Lakers needed to make a three-point shot to tie the game. Once again Harris chose Bryant to take this big shot, and once again the rookie shot an air ball. The Jazz won the game 98-93 and captured the series.
