Why college still matters. American society shows huge inequalities from a political and economic point of view. Where the rich have more opportunities than a person who comes from an inferior social status. Higher education promotes the development of our society, but how can they help our society when ¨colleges and universities are businesses, and students are cost item ¨ (Nemko 522). Colleges even accept money and give loans to students that are not prepared to take college level classes and are most likely fail and to end up with a huge debt but even if they graduate they will pay off their debt in 30 and maybe 40 years. The purpose of college or at least what it should be is to help to generate better levels of competition to a country and its organizations. In effect, it will better the investigation, development and innovation to become competitive against other countries. The demands of the society increase; governments that are conscious about the importance of universities pretend to finance education in the universities, and companies seek to influence the universities by giving them economical or material resources that can help to the quality of education that students receive, ¨44.6
